Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my account closed? And where did my money go?

After 2 years of inactivity, a $5 monthly fee will be charged to the account. On April 15th of every year, all accounts with 3 or more years of inactivity and remaining funds are sent to the Pennsylvania Treasury Department.

Please visit their website here to search for any missing funds that may belong to you.

How do I make loan payments?

There are several methods to make a loan payment.

  1. You can pay in person at one of our two convenient offices. Bring a valid ID, cash, or a personal check.

  2. Directly from your savings or checking account with us, you can initiate a transfer toward the loan through our Online Banking (one-time or recurring).

  3. With your written permission, we can set up an automatic transfer at the office level to withdraw from your share or draft account on your agreed-upon payment date.

  4. Use the “Bill Pay” method from another financial institution. Please include your account number, followed by the loan number. For example, if your account number with us is 12345 and the loan ID is 2, in the “notes” associated with the payment, you would insert “12345 LN 2.” This will help us ensure that your payment goes to the correct account and loan.

What is a credit union?

A credit union is a cooperative, not-for-profit financial institution organized to promote thrift and provide credit to members. It is member-owned and controlled by a board of directors elected by the membership. The board serves on a volunteer basis and may hire a management team to run the credit union. The board also establishes and revises policy, sets dividend and loan rates, and directs certain operations. The result: members are provided with a safe, convenient place to save and borrow at reasonable rates at an institution that exists to benefit them, not to make a profit.

I moved/changed jobs! Do I have to close my account?

What is the purpose of a credit union?

The primary purpose of furthering their goal of service is to encourage members to save money. Another purpose is to offer loans to members. In fact, credit unions have traditionally made loans to people of ordinary means. Credit unions can charge lower rates for loans (as well as pay higher dividends on savings) because they are nonprofit cooperatives. Rather than paying profits to stockholders, credit unions return earnings to members in the form of dividends or improved services.

Are savings deposits insured?

Yes. All savings accounts are insured up to $250,000 by the NCUA, the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the federal government. This is extended to every member associated with an account. For example, if a husband and wife have a joint account with us, the insured amount would be $500,000.

Who can join a credit union?

A credit union exists to serve a specific group of people, such as a group of employees or the members of a professional or religious group. This is called a “field of membership.” The field of membership may include where they live, where they work, or their membership in a social or economic group.
